Maintain inventory items

First of all,we click on maintain icon and select the option of inventory item from drop down menu of maintain..

when you click on inventory items the following window will appear..

In this screen first of all you have to select item class item Id and Description,as we choose the stock item only so there are three tabs below the description..
.General
.Custom Fields
.History
In the general tab you have to choose the description for sales or for purchase,if you are purchaser select the purchase option from description and if you are seller then select the option “for sales”..
In the general tab you must have to select three accounts General ledger sales account,General ledger inventory account and general ledger cost of sales account..
Be careful in selecting the inventory account,if you are dealing with raw material choose the inventory account of raw material and if you are dealing with work in process or finished goods then choose the relevant inventory account..
Now click on custom fields tab,the following window will appear

In the custom Fields tab,you have option to change the field labels..these can be changed or enabled on the item default window
Now click on history tab,the following window will appear

In this tab,you can write the units sold, salesrecord, units record and costs..there is a column of period history from where month and year will be selected..andinfront of this the history of items will be recorded..
There is some difference if you choose assembly in item class,if you enter the account id and description and select the assembly option in item class, the following screen will appear

Here you can see that, there are four tabs, tab of “bill of material” is also highlighted now,in stock item tab of bill of material is not highlighted…and in selecting accounts there is also one difference that you will choose the finished goods inventory account rather then raw material inventory..
If you save any item in assembly class without saving bill of materials the following error will appear

So you must have to save bill of material, when you click on bill of material tab the following window will appear

Here you will select your stock items id and description and quantity needed..after entering all data save it,it will shown to you in following window

After saving it,now enter their beginning balances in general tab..after that click ok and your item will be saved with beginning balance,it will shown to you in following window

Simliarly if you select labor in item class, there will be some difference ,if you select labor the following window will appear

Here you can see that bill of material icon is again becomes inactive, and options of available stock,re-order level, minimum stock, quantity on hand is disappeared.and in labor class you will have to select salary/wages account in inventory account..
